With extensive expertise in humanitarian intervention, Save the Children Romania has had teams on the ground at border crossings with Ukraine since the first day of the war. This is the most complex humanitarian crisis triggered in Europe in recent decades, requiring diverse solutions on multiple fronts, ranging from immediate support measures such as clothing, blankets, and hot meals to psychosocial support programs, social integration, and educational support for children and their families.
Save the Children has paid special attention to providing direct services to children, parents, and vulnerable adults, developing rapid interventions to respond to the emergency situation as well as their integration needs. This includes providing material and financial support, translation and informational counseling, psychosocial support, as well as guidance and counseling to access available rights and services such as education, medical services, employment opportunities, and emotional counseling services.
Save the Children Organization has been alongside Ukrainian refugees, constantly assessing their needs and providing humanitarian assistance, as appropriate, at border crossings with Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, in Accommodation and Procedure Centers for Asylum Seekers of the General Inspectorate for Immigration, in camps coordinated by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, at various staging points, in Integrated Service Centers created by Save the Children in several localities, and in partner schools.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) was founded in 1991 to create a new post-Cold War era in central and eastern Europe. It is now doing more than ever before, across three continents, to further progress towards “market-oriented economies and the promotion of private and entrepreneurial initiative”. Since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, the EBRD, Ukraine’s biggest institutional investor, has further stepped up support, committing to invest €3 billion there by end-2023 while also intensifying support for neighboring countries.
